J.C. Mehta - 2020 Birdy Poetry Prize Winner |
The Birdy Poetry Prize is an annual
cash and publication award for a full-length collection of poetry. Submissions
open in September, so it’s time for you to revisit that manuscript and send it
on over! The most recent Birdy winner is JC Mehta, whose Selected Poems:
2000-2020 was picked by poetry judge Stanley E. Banks. Mehta, who received
$500 cash, publication (coming January 2021), and 50 copies of the book uses poetry as one way of
addressing the complex nature of identity, especially as a present-day member
of the Cherokee Nation. She is currently the artist-in-residence at Crazy Horse
Memorial for August 2020 and will be leading artist talks on Zoom every
Wednesday during her term. Her Meadowlark book, Selected Poems, will be
out in January. Learn more about Mehta at jessicamehta.com,

to learn how you can participate in this year’s contest!
