About The Birdy Poetry Prize:
Meadowlark Books created The Birdy Poetry Prize to celebrate the voices of this era. $500 annual cash prize, publication, and 50 copies. Awarded annually.

2019 Winner & Finalist List (announced 01/14/2019)

Accepting Entries: May 1 to December 1, 2019 January 19, 2020

Entry Fee: $25

Prize: $500 cash, publication by Meadowlark Books, including 50 copies of the completed book 

All entries will be considered for standard Meadowlark Books publishing contract offers, as well.  

Submission and contest entry fee of $25 must be received by December 1, January 19, 2020 midnight.

Full-length poetry manuscripts (55 page minimum, 90+ pages preferred) will be considered. Poems may be previously published in journals and/or anthologies, but not in full-length, single-author volumes. All poets residing in the U.S.A. are eligible to enter, regardless of publishing history.

Manuscript Preparation - The author’s name should not appear anywhere on the document. Two files will be submitted as follows:
 File 1 - "information" should include:
  • Your full name as it would appear in publication
  • postal mail address
  • email
  • phone number
  • brief bio
File 2 - "manuscript" should include - Author's name should NOT appear in this file. 
  • title of collection
  • a complete list of contents
  • any section or division headings
  • all poems of the collection

Manuscript Preparation - Postal Mail Submission:
The author’s name should appear only on a cover sheet. Printed manuscript should include a title, a complete list of contents, and any section or division headings.

Postal mail submissions must be postmarked on or before December 1, 2019. January 19, 2020

The cover sheet should include the following:
  1. Author name
  2. Author contact, including mailing address, email address, phone number
  3. Title of manuscript
  4. Check or money order attached.
