  1. Writing my creative thesis in grad school was one of the best times of my life. I loved the work and the entire process of creating a finished collection of poetry.

  2. The best time in my life is now. Time shoves me ahead and drags me back in fits and starts. The days are so long as I tend to the tasks of mothering - wiping a tiny sticky face, fastening yet another shoe. Patience wears thin. Then, out of nowhere, this one needs bigger pants, that one can read a word. The tiny babies they were give way to the children they yearn to be now, and you can feel the men they will be pulling them, against my will, inexorably into their future. I breathe through the tantrums, soak up the hugs, and collect every little kiss like lightning bugs in a jar. I can't capture the magic and keep it forever, but I can grasp every moment and appreciate how beautiful it all is.
